Homeland acknowledges overseas Vietnamese's contributions

(VNA) - Vice State President Truong My Hoa affirmed the country has always acknowledged overseas Vietnamese's contributions to the homeland while meeting in Ha Noi on August 17 with more than 60 overseas Vietnamese intellectuals, who returned home for a seminar on the community's contribution to national construction.

The State leader said the overseas intellectuals' presence at the seminar indicated their concern over the country's construction at a time when Viet Nam is preparing for celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day.

Hoa stressed that Viet Nam has obtained numerous important socio-economic achievements during 20 years of renovation and that it needs help from overseas Vietnamese to promote the transfer of knowledge for national development.

She told her guests of the Politbureau's resolution 36 and the Government's action plan which are aimed at mobilising overseas Vietnamese intellectuals to develop the country.

The Vice President spoke highly of her guests' presentations at the seminar and affirmed these opinions will help the Party and State make appropriate policies for the community of overseas Vietnamese, particularly the intellectuals.

She said she hoped the seminar will be held periodically so overseas Vietnamese can make greater contributions to the homeland.

Nguyen Tri Dung, a resident in Japan, affirmed that the Vietnamese community abroad will act as a bridge to transfer the world's technological and scientific advances to the country.
