Laos-Viet Nam cooperation constantly develops
The statement was made by Lao Ambassador to Viet Nam Soonthorn Xayachack in an interview exclusively granted to the Viet Nam News Agency on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 30th anniversary of the Laos-Viet Nam Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
”The establishment of diplomatic ties on September 5, 1962, marked an historical milestone in the Laos-Viet Nam relationship,” she stressed.
Just two years after the two countries were free from foreign aggressors, Laos and Viet Nam signed their friendship and cooperation treaty on July 18, 1977, creating a legal and political platform for relations between the two Parties, States and people in the peaceful stage of national development.
Solid political relations between Laos and Viet Nam have been considered as a foundation for bilateral cooperation in other fields, including economy, trade, investment, science, technology, national defence, security and foreign affairs, said Ambassador Xayachack.
Viet Nam currently ranks third in the list of foreign investors operating in Laos with 70 projects worth more than 500 million USD, the ambassador said, adding that localities of the two countries have also seen stronger ties.
According to the diplomat, Laos and Viet Nam have strived to raise two-way trade to 1 billion USD in 2010 and 2 billion USD in 2015. To reach the target, relevant agencies from both countries should work together to tap their potential and seek suitable cooperation models.-(VNA)
