Current situation

The ongoing outbreak of coronavirus is getting complicated day by day. As of February 14, 2020, the global number of confirmed corona cases is 64,171 with deaths topping at least 1,486.

No vaccine to prevent COVID-19 infection is available at the time being.

On February 1, 2020, Viet Nam Government declared the new coronavirus an epidemic.

Viet Nam has already implemented following drastic measures to stem the spread of the disease:

- As of January 31, 2020, Viet Nam has halted issuing visa for foreign visitors who have been to China for the last 14 days. The only exception will be delegates traveling on official government business.

- As of February 1, 2020, Viet Nam has suspended all flights to and from coronavirus-affected areas in China, except special cases approved by the Prime Minister.

- Viet Nam’s Ministry of Health has established 45 Emergency Response Teams nationwide to fight the epidemic.

Advice for delegates

In the capacity as the Chair of ASEAN 2020 and the host of numerous ASEAN meetings, the Vietnamese authorities are implementing measures to control and mitigate the risk of infection of COVID-19.

- At the airport, delegates should comply with procedures put in place by the local authorities, including undergoing mandatory screening check. Passengers with symptoms of acute respiratory illness are to be checked. Individuals testing positive are to be quarantined.

- At hotels and meeting venues, there is a roster of appropriately trained medical staff on duty 24/7.

- Delegates are advised to seek immediate medical attention if any respiratory symptoms occur by reporting to the Security and Health Sub-committee or calling the Standing Emergency Response Team +84989121818, +84 982397919, +84 904109918.

- A list of hospitals with infectious diseases department assigned to accept suspected COVID-19 patients is provided in the Appendix.

Delegates from Hubei Province and other parts of China

As of February 3, 2020, delegates who have been in Wuhan or in Hubei Province within the past 14 days are to be quarantined immediately upon arrival.
