Viet Nam, Chile boost cooperation in seafood trading

A Vietnamese business delegation headed by Deputy President of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) Nguyen Huu Dung has begun a tour to Chile.

Dung described Chile as an ideal place for the Vietnamese fisheries sector to build a bridge to the Latin American market and Viet Nam was an ideally placed for Chile to boost its exports to East Asia.

Dung singled out Chilean salmon as a product that was performing well in Viet Nam and increasing its market share at the expense of Norwegian salmon, its chief rival in the country.

The visit to Chile is part of the delegation’s broader tour to investigate the South American market.

After Chile, the delegation will visit Brazil. They plan to have a meeting with Brazilian seafood businesses, visit the Seafood Expo Latin America 2007 and some seafood processing plants and fishing ports in Santos, Brazil, before conclude its tour on September 20.-(VNA)
