Vietnam - Jamaica Relations
The diplomatic ties at ambassadorial level between Vietnam and Jamaica were established on January 5th, 1976. The current Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba is also serving as Vietnam’s Ambassador to Jamaica and the Jamaican Ambassador in Beijing, China is holding the Ambassadorship to Vietnam.
In September 1979, after attending the Sixth Non-Aligned Movement Summit in La Havana, Cuba, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong paid an official visit to Jamaica marking a new development in the bilateral relationships.
Vietnam has enjoyed Jamaican support to its WTO admission and its bid for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council. However, the economic and trade ties are still on a limited scale.
