Vietnamese businesses seek opportunities in Russia
A Vietnamese business delegation has held talks with their Russian partners on trade promotion, especially the export of Vietnamese goods to Russia in Moscow.
During their eight-day fact-finding mission to Russia, representatives of 10 famous Vietnamese businesses focused their talks on ways for Vietnamese goods to enter Russia and convenient payments between Vietnamese and Russian partners.
Viet Nam’s textiles and apparels, catfish, coffee and pepper have been sold well in the US, Japan and the European Union (EU). However, they were very modest in Russia although the Commonwealth of Independent States (SNG) is a traditional market for Vietnamese goods.
At the talks, the Viet Tien Garment Export-Import Corporation said it earns an annual turnover of 300 million USD from shirt exports to the US, which is accounting for more than 30 percent of its turnover, and Japan and the EU, making up 28 percent each. The corporation has yet shipped any batches of goods to Russia since 1991.
Meanwhile, the Thanh Cong Textile and Garment Company said its annual export turnover reaches 50 million USD with 59 percent of its goods exported to the US but the company has not found an entrance for its goods to Russia.
With the US and the EU are main importers of its catfish products, the Ho Chi Minh City Sea Products Import-Export Corporation (SEAPRODEX) considers Russia its potential market, said its representative at the event.
Deputy General Director of the Phu Nhuan Service Company Nguyen Xuan Hang said Viet Nam ranks second in the world in coffee exports but its coffee must go through European nations to Russian processing factories.
Vietnamese representatives expressed the hope that after the talks and the exhibition, Vietnamese goods will get easy access to Russia and payment procedures will be facilitated through the two countries’ joint venture banks.-(VNA)
