Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh bolster ties

Phnom Penh (VNA) - Ho Chi Minh City will provide Cambodia's Phnom Penh capital with 300,000 USD to build schools, Ho Chi Minh City Mayor Le Thanh Hai informed the decision to his Cambodian counterpart during his current visit to Phnom Penh.

 

HCM City also pledged to provide free cataract surgery for 1,500 Cambodian people in the 2004-2006 period, open an affiliate of HCM City's Cho Ray Hospital in Phnom Penh, and facilitate the treatment of Cambodian people in Ho Chi Minh City's medical establishments.

 

The two cities also reached a number of investment and business cooperation agreements during the visit.

 

Viet Nam's SAVICO company signed a contract with Cambodia's MONGRITHY company to build a 9-km road from central Phnom Penh to its international airport at a cost of 10 million USD.

Meanwhile, the Sai Gon Trading Corporation (SATRA) signed a memorandum of understanding with the SOKIMEX to build aquatic and farm produce processing plants.

 

The Dong Tam ceramic tile company signed a contract with HON HUI TRADING company, which will serve as the retail agent for Dong Tam company in Cambodia. The Vietnamese business also promised to provide financial support for international matches of Phnom Penh's football team.

 

During the Monday meeting with overseas Vietnamese in Phnom Penh, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation presented 10,000 USD and 5,000 textbooks to under-priviledged families.
