Viet Nam highly values UK's ODA and investment

Ha Noi, Oct. 28 (VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan highly valued the official development assistance (ODA) and investment from the UK in Viet Nam while receiving visiting State Secretary for the Home Office of the UK, Browne Desmond Henry, in Ha Noi on Thursday.

Khoan expressed his wish that the UK continue to help Viet Nam in urban and transport management, and fire prevention and fighting.

He stated that the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on immigration marked a new cooperation channel between the two countries, reflecting mutual understanding and the on-going development of bilateral cooperation in many fields. The Vietnamese Government does not support illegal immigration and wishes to settle  the issue in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding.

Henry spoke of the fine development of relations between the two countries and said that the signing of the MoU reflected the spirit of cooperation which exists between the two governments, and will create favourable conditions for the respective countries' citizens to travel, as well as effectively fight illegal immigration.

He said he hoped that with the UK government's policy to strengthen ties with Viet Nam, many British entrepreneurs would expand investment in Viet Nam and bilateral economic and financial cooperation would be further developed.

The two countries reached the MoU on immigration earlier the same day.

Signatories were Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung and  the UK State Secretary for Home Office Browne Desmond Henry.
