Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam has proposed that member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) focus on trans-national haze prevention and establishment of sub-regions, such as the Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia cooperation to help each other in this field.
The proposal was made during the 21st meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on the Environment-Haze Technical Task Force (ASOEN-HTTF) in Ha Noi on Monday.
The conference reviewed the implementation of ASEAN agreements on trans-national haze pollution and the action plan for haze prevention, which were reached under the "ASEAN Vision 2020" initiative.
Participants discussed five major issues including prevention and control of haze in the region; forest fire fighting and prevention; ASEAN muddy soil management strategy; and preparations for the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Haze (AMMH) and the first meeting of the participating parties on an agreement for trans-national haze prevention.
