Deputy PM receives Lao Minister

Ha Noi (VNA) - Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Tuesday received a visiting delegation from the Lao Ministry of Communications, Transport, Post and Construction headed by Minister Bouathong Vonglokham.

Deputy PM Dung welcomed the Lao delegates' visit, stressing that the fruitful cooperation in communications and transport will boost the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

He expressed his joy at the fine cooperation between the two nations' communications and transport sectors over the past years and spoke highly of the results of their talks.

The Deputy PM identified the current construction of Road 18b in Laos as a large project which is being jointly carried out by the two transport ministries; the two sides agreed that close supervision was necessary to ensure the project's construction speed in preparation for even larger ones.

Minister Vonglokham thanked Deputy PM Dung for his reception and informed him about the results of the talks with the Transport Ministry of Viet Nam.

The Lao minister said the Vietnamese Transport Ministry will help build a strategy to develop traffic systems in the next ten years, train traffic managers, and study and design three bridges for Laos. The two sides also agreed to set up a joint working group to help the ministries deal with difficulties arising during the cooperation process, he added.
