Anniversary of Viet Nam-Mongolia diplomatic ties marked

Ha Noi, Nov. 15 (VNA) - The Viet Nam-Mongolia Friendship Association held a get-together in Ha Noi on Monday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries (Nov. 17, 1954-Nov. 17, 2004).

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phu Binh and Mongolian Ambassador to Viet Nam Baasanjav Ganbold were present at the function.

President of the Friendship Association Hoang Minh Thang reviewed the friendship between Viet Nam and Mongolia, the foundation of which was laid by President Ho Chi Minh during his visit to Mongolia in July 1955 and Mongolian Chairman of Ministers' Council Yu Tsedenbal's visit to Viet Nam in December, 1959. He stressed that the Vietnamese people highly value the friendship of Mongolia, who was among one of the biggest aid providers to Viet Nam during the wartime on a per capita basis.

Thang said that the traditional friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries have only expanded in recent years, since both countries have launched reforms and shifted to market economies. Viet Nam has received more Mongolian students this year, and two-way trade value currently stands at 2 million USD.

On the occasion, the Viet Nam-Mongolia Friendship Association sponsored a contest on knowledge about Mongolia and Viet Nam's relations with the country.
