Viet Nam-China relations keep growing, say leaders

Santiago (VNA) - Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, shared the same view that under the motto "Friendly neighbours, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, and looking toward the future", those relations have kept developing.

The two presidents met in Santiago, Chile, where they have attended the 12th Summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on Nov. 20-21.

They agreed that the two countries' cooperation has been boosted in many fields; works on installing land border milestones have been accelerated; the Agreement on Delineation of the Gulf of Tonkin and the Agreement on Fisheries have become effective; and the two countries' economic relations have been  supplemented and seen potential for development.

The two presidents committed to encouraging enterprises to promote trade exchanges in order to achieve the target of 10 billion USD in bilateral trade by 2010. They also pledged to set up more projects in the areas of energy and infrastructure development.

Other commitments covered the organisation of activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year.

President Luong affirmed that the Vietnamese leaders and people were determined to build and foster the traditional relations between Viet Nam and China. He hailed the success of the 4th Plenum of the 16th Central Committee of  the Communist Party of China and valuable achievements of the Chinese people in many fields, particularly economies, science and technology.

President Hu thanked the Vietnamese leader for his congratulations and praised Viet Nam's achievements in its renewal process, especially the successful organisation of the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting last October. He stated that the Chinese Party and Government attached importance to furthering relations with Viet Nam and gave on Viet Nam a central point in China's policies towards neighbour countries.

President Luong invited President Hu to visit Viet Nam and conveyed invitation from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Nong Duc Manh to him. President Hu accepted the two leaders' invitations with pleasure.
