Ha Noi (VNA) - A delegation of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) led by its Vice President Dang Ngoc Chien, has been in Santiago, Chile, to attend the 10th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Trade Union Conference.
General Secretary Guy Ryder of the International Confederation of the Free Trade Union (ICFTU) has been at the conference, among others.
The conference praised APEC's efforts and achievements obtained over the recent past in boosting trade liberalisation and investment, strengthening security, minimizing poverty, creating jobs and human resource training.
Participants in the conference noted that to ensure sustainable development, APEC leaders should further attach importance to national policy, ensuring the rights of labourers and trade union organisations to participation at national and regional levels, and respecting labourers' basic rights at their places of work upon the labour standards of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
They also requested that APEC leaders create sustainable conditions for the establishment of a labour forum within the APEC process.
The VGCL delegation met with delegates of other countries' trade union delegations.
