More AO victims benefit from French organiations' assistance


Tien Giang (VNA) - President of the French Cannelle Association Rober Nugier on Jan. 31 visited the southern province of Tien Giang and donated 20 million to help build four houses for Agent Orange/Dioxin victims.

The donation will benefit AO/Dioxin victims living in the province's communes of Long Hung (Chau Thanh district), Tan Phu and My Hanh Dong (Cai Lay district), and Hau My Trinh (Cai Be district).

In addition, Rober Nugier also granted 135 million VND to the provincial Red Cross to help build rural traffic works, kindergartens, purchase wheelchairs and provide scholarships for AO/Dioxin victims and disabled children in Tien Giang.

The same day, Alain Dussarps, President of the French electricity and gas sector's Association for Technical and Cultural Cooperation (ACOTEC), paid visits to families of AO/Dioxin victims in Phuoc Thanh and Thanh Phu communes of Chau Thanh district in Tien Giang province who had received financial assistance from ACOTEC for production development.

Since 1995, ACOTEC has annually donated 126,000 euros to 17 provinces and cities across the country to help build kindergartens for ethnic children, provide vocational training courses for ethnic people in Central Highlands provinces and poor people in other regions, and assist families of AO/Dioxin victims in livestock breeding.

ACOTEC will in 2005 also grant around 100 million VND to help those people continue these above-mentioned projects.
