Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien meets with diplomatic corps on Tet
(VNA): Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien on February 2 met with the diplomatic corps and international organisations in Hanoi on the occasion of the traditional lunar New Year of the Rooster (Tet).
FM Nien thanked the foreign governments and people, and international organisations for their co-operation and valuable assistance to Vietnam over the past year. He also expressed thanks to the diplomats for their effective activities, and their role as a bridge between Vietnam and their countries and organisations.
Minister Nien stressed that the important socio-economic and diplomatic achievements of Vietnam in 2004 were the result of the Vietnamese people's tireless efforts and great assistance from foreign countries and international organisations. He affirmed that Vietnam will continually pursue the independent and open-door foreign policy of diversification and multilateralisation. The FM said he hoped that this year Vietnam will receive more support and effective assistance from all countries and international organisations.
On behalf of the diplomatic corps, Sayed Al-Masri, Ambassador of the Palestine State, and Head of the diplomatic corps in Hanoi, conveyed best New Year wishes to Vietnamese leaders and people. He congratulated Vietnam on its great achievements in both domestic and foreign affairs in 2004, including the marked improvement of people's living conditions, and the success of the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting - a turning point in Vietnam's external relations. He also noted that Vietnam has actively joined the international community's efforts to help tsunami-hit ASEAN countries.
FM Nien and the diplomats raised toasts to the further development of friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and foreign countries and international organisations; and to Vietnamese people's progress and achievements in the new year./.
