Leaders meet overseas Vietnamese on Tet
Ha Noi, (VNA) - President Tran Duc Luong has called upon overseas Vietnamese to maintain their national cultural identity, particularly the use of the Vietnamese language.Meeting with overseas Vietnamese who had returned home for Tet, in Ha Noi on Feb. 3, Luong asked them to uphold the national tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance. He expressed his joys at overseas Vietnamese people's accomplishments in business, research and work.
He said that Resolution 36 of the Communist Party of Viet Nam's Political Bureau has met the aspirations of overseas Vietnamese communities. The Government has always paid due attention to the interests of Vietnamese nationals residing abroad, he said. He called upon all Vietnamese people inside and outside the country to join efforts in building an independent and unified country for the goal of "a rich people, a prosperous country, and an equitable, democratic and civilised society".
Most Venerable Thich Phuc Duong of the Truc Lam pagoda in Paris expressed his delight at the development of the country and the people's happiness. He wished for a further increase of Viet Nam's position and prestige in the international arena.
Prime Minister Phan Van Khai received overseas Vietnamese in Ha Noi the same day. He asked them to continue contributing to helping raise the country out of poverty.
