Vietnamese abroad celebrate Tet
(VNA): Overseas Vietnamese in France, Germany and the Republic of Korea held get-togethers this weekend to celebrate the Vietnamese traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The February 19 celebration in Paris was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Dinh Bin, Vietnamese students, and French friends and representatives of the Paris authorities.
Vice President of the Paris-based Overseas Vietnamese Association Luu Thanh Dung said that the co-operative ties between Vietnam and France has been unceasingly consolidated and developed in the recent past.
He also attributed the assurance of the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese living in various parts of the world, including those in France, to the effective foreign policy of the Party and the State.
In Germany, the Vietnamese Embassy hosted a New Year's get-together with the attendance of over 80 Vietnamese students and postgraduates.
Tran Anh Dung, a diplomat in charge of Vietnamese students' affairs in Germany, said that German universities applauded Vietnamese students' study records and pointed to the fact that the number of Vietnamese students accepted to post-graduate courses was significantly on the rise.
The Ambassador also spoke highly of Vietnamese students' contributions to the homeland, particularly their recent support for Vietnamese Agent Orange victims.
On February 20, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Korea organised a New Year's get-together for overseas Vietnamese, and Vietnamese workers and students.
