Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan welcomes US congressmen


Ha Noi (VNA) - In Ha Noi on Feb.22, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan received a courtesy visit from a delegation of US congressmen who began a two-day visit.

The visit aims to discuss issues relating to the two countries' relations, especially those relating to US Missing-in-Actions (MIAs).

The delegation is led by Congressman John McHugh, who is also chairman of the subcommittee on total force - which is responsible for military personnel policy, reserve component integration and employment, military health care, military education, prisoner of war/missing in action (POW/MIA) issues, morale, welfare, recreation and quality of life programs.

The delegation also held working sessions with Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for External Relations Vu Mao, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Bang and Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Huy Hieu.

The two sides noted with satisfaction the progress recorded in Viet Nam-US bilateral relations.

The relations between the two countries over the past 10 years of normalisation have been beneficial to both sides, economically, commercially and culturally, they said, citing the all-round cooperation in humanitarian issues, education and training, drug control, fighting trans-national crimes, terrorism and military exchanges.

The US guests spoke highly of Viet Nam's renewal achievements, and open foreign policy. They affirmed their wish to boost bilateral relations./.
