France helps improve AIDS treatment quality
Ha Noi (VNA) - Four groups of French HIV/AIDS experts have been in Viet Nam to help the country raise the quality of medical treatment for those people contracting the fatal disease.
According to the French Embassy, between Mar. 6-15, Prof. Pierre Weinbreck of the Limoges University Hospital and Doctor Jacques Doll of the Versailles Hospital together with other specialists are working with Vietnamese colleagues to exchange treatment experiences.
At the same time, another group led by Prof. Massip from Toulouse City is working with the Viet Nam - Czech Hospital in the northern port city of Hai Phong and later this month, Doctor Christophe Piketty from the Georges Pompidou Hospital will work with the Preventive Medicine Centre and the Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City.
The French specialists' assistance is part of a cooperation programme (ESTHER) among networking hospitals of France. The trip aims to create opportunities for specialists of both countries to continue mapping out projects to improve child care and prevent HIV/AIDS transmission from mothers to their children.
The ESTHER programme is to strengthen comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment, medically and psychologically, for AIDS victims. It also covers the provision of medicines to patients, training to medical staff, and facilities to clinics./.
