APEC energy working group meets in Ha Noi
Ha Noi (VNA) - The 29th annual APEC Energy Working Group (EWG) meeting opened in Ha Noi on Mar. 16 to review one year of their performance and identify priorities for this year's work plan.
The two priorities will be ensuring energy security and establishing task forces to cope with emergencies such as the Tsunami disaster the world experienced late last year.
During the two-day sitting, participants will consider project proposals, the composition of the group's secretariat, and decide timings and locations for future meetings.
Speaking at the event, Chair of the APEC EWG Business Network (EBN) Andy Lloyd praised the recent economic progress in Viet Nam such as the inauguration of the second stock exchange in Ha Noi, the country's efforts to enter WTO, and the continuous growth rate of its GDP in recent years. He also pointed out that there is still room for improvement in the efficiency of the country's energy sector.
Earlier on Mar. 15, a preparatory meeting for the conference called the EBN Business Forum took place in Ha Noi with some 70 delegates from APEC economies. Vietnamese Deputy Industry Minister Do Huu Hao delivered a keynote address at the function, stressing opportunities and challenges for the country's energy development as well as the prospects for its regional cooperation.
