Viet Nam holds WTO negotiations with RoK

Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam is conducting negotiations with the Republic of Korea (RoK) on the former's joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO), according to the Ministry of Trade.

The focus of the talks in Ha Noi on April 13 and 14 are discussions on tariffs applicable to several major RoK export items once Viet Nam opens its market.

At the previous talks in Seoul, the two countries failed to reach an agreement on a wide range of issues due to the fact that the RoK put forward high requirements for Viet Nam.

Viet Nam proposed that the two sides be more flexible and focus on staples having relatively high export revenues.Vietnamese negotiators argued that once Viet Nam completely opens its market, RoK investors doing business in Viet Nam will be adversely affected.

Viet Nam has been conducting negotiations with other partners, including Japan, in Geneva, Switzerland. The 10th round of multilateral negotiations for Viet Nam's accession to the world biggest trade body is scheduled to take place in Geneva next month./.
