Viet Nam attends UN congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
(VNA) - Deputy Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieu. Gen. Le The Tiem is attending the 11th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Bangkok, Thailand.
On the first day of the five-day congress on April 22, the Vietnamese General shared with his counterparts from nearly 200 countries expriences in implementing programmes to prevent and counter drug-related crimes, the trafficking in women and children, and corruption.
He also introduced to the congress improvements in Viet Nam's penal laws as well as the law enforcement agencies over the past five years.
At the congress, the United Nations Office of Drug and Crimes (UNODC) and the participants worked together to devise action plans for the next five years to implement the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime, and the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, the Protocol against Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, and the UN Convention against Corruption.
Programmes and measures to cooperate in fighting terrorists, drug-related criminals, criminals using hi-tech, and transnational syndicates operating in participating countries were discussed at the event. The participants also touched upon issues on criminal justice, such as the extradition of criminals and mutual judicial support in the law enforcement field./.
