Viet Nam re-assures UN of top priority for children
(VNA)- Viet Nam has provided the best possible care and protection for children, especially the disabled, the disadvantaged and those from ethnic minority groups, Vice President Truong My Hoa told Chairman of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child Jacob Egbert Dock in Ha Noi on May 5.
Hoa said the Party and the State have focused on raising the community, family and the entire society's sense of responsibility towards children, even though the country is still suffering from the heavy consequences of the war and a poor economy.
Viet Nam has developed laws on children and executed a number of programmes for children, she said.
Viet Nam considers the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child the task of every agency, organisation, and individual concluded Vice President Hoa.
The UN Child Rights leader praised Viet Nam for its strong commitments and great efforts to promoting the rights of the child.
Viet Nam has done a great job in child care and education and other rights of the child despite its economic difficulty, Dock said.
Viet Nam has launched many programmes and projects in support of children, especially the disabled and those from ethnic minority groups, which are one of the UN's major concerns, said the UN Child Rights leader, who is on a trip around Viet Nam.
