PM Phan Van Khai starts visit to New Zealand
(VNA) - Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visited Lincoln University in Christchurch City on May 8, the first leg of his official visit to New Zealand.
Khai attended presentations made by the university's faculty on reducing pollution, micro-biological methods of soil protection and tourism for sustainable development.
He also visited an airplane maintenance workshop and the Antartic Centre.
On this occasion, the Deputy Mayor of Christchurch City called on Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and said that he was proud to welcome PM Khai and his entourage. The Deputy Mayor praised Viet Nam's renewal achievements and expressed his hope for the further development of cooperative ties between Christichurch City and provinces and cities of Viet Nam.
PM Khai noted that the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries' diplomatic ties is nearing and said this would be a chance for Viet Nam and New Zealand to further accelerate their comprehensive cooperation, particularly in politics, economics, commerce, investment, education and training.
He applauded Christchurch City's policies to strengthen cooperation with Viet Nam's localities and said that the two sides should build up programmes and projects to help boost the relations.
A grand ceremony to welcome Prime Minister Phan Van Khai will be held in the capital city of Wellington on May 9. PM Phan Van Khai arrived in Christchurch on May 7 for an official visit at the invitation of PM Helen Clark./.
