President salutes Russia on 60th anniversary of victory over fascism
Ha Noi (VNA) - President Tran Duc Luong, on May 9, sent his congratulations to Russian President V. Putin on the 60th anniversary of the victory over fascism.
The message read: "Humankind will always remember the great victory over fascism by the Soviet Union's army and people during World War II, a victory which saved humankind from the catastrophe of fascism, and brought peace to many nations.
"On this occasion, our people are proud to have sided with the Soviet people and anti-fascism forces in fighting for peace. The great victory of the Soviet people enabled the Vietnamese people to stand up for their independence, and successfully carry out the August 1945 Revolution, ushering in a glorious era in the national history."
President Luong expressed his strong belief that in the coming period, leaders and people of Viet Nam and Russia would continue to foster the two countries' strategic partnership for the two peoples' benefit and for peace, stability and development.
The same day, Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien extended his greetings to his Russian counterpart S. Lavrov.
