Viet Nam, Indonesia boost population cooperation
(VNA) - Viet Nam and Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the population, family and children in Jakarta on May 16.
Signatories were visiting Vietnamese Minister and Chairwoman of the State Committee for Population, Family and Children Le Thi Thu and Indonesian Chairwoman of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (NFPCB) Sumarjati Arjoso.
In an interview with a Jakarta-based Vietnam News Agency correspondent on this occasion, Minister Thu said delegations from the two committees have since 1991 exchanged visits to share experiences in the field.
Viet Nam has sent 200 population workers to Indonesia to study, she said, adding that Indonesia's successful experiences have been applied in Viet Nam. She attributed Viet Nam's population award in 1999 from the United Nations to contributions from the NFPCB of Indonesia.
During the four-day visit, which will end on May 18, the Vietnamese delegation will meet Indonesian Minister for Social Affairs Bachtiar Chamsyah to discuss policies and programmes relating to the protection of children.
