Viet Nam wishes to expand cooperation with Bangladesh and Tunisia

(VNA) - Viet Nam wants to expand and diversify its cooperative ties and traditional friendship with Bangladesh and Tunisia, said President Tran Duc Luong during separate meetings with the newly-accredited Bangladeshi Ambassador Sawar Hossain Mollah and Tunisian Ambassador Mohamed Sahbi Basly, who presented their credentials in Ha Noi on May 26.

President Luong said he believed that the two ambassadors will offer initiatives to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperative ties.

While meeting with Bangladeshi Ambassador Mollah, President Luong congratulated him on his appointment at a time when the two countries' relations are witnessing progress, particularly since the Viet Nam visit from May 17-19 by President Khaleda Zia.

He said that besides wishing to promote bilateral cooperation in economics, commerce and investment, Viet Nam also hopes to actively cooperate with Bangladesh in regional and international issues, as well as to boost relations between countries in the ASEAN and South Asia, of which Viet Nam and Bangladesh are two members, respectively.

The Bangladeshi Ambassador pledged to do his best to turn deals and agreements signed between the two nations into concrete programmes and actions.

While receiving Tunisian Ambassador Basly, President Luong spoke highly of the ambassador's proposal to send a delegation of Tunisian entrepreneurs to Viet Nam early next year to seek opportunities for cooperation in economics, commerce, and investment.

The Vietnamese leader asked the Ambassador to convey his invitation to Tunisian President Ben Ali to visit Viet Nam.

For his part, Ambassador Basly said Tunisia could play the role of a bridge to help Viet Nam bring its products into North African and Arab countries. He also expressed his hope that Viet Nam and Tunisia would open diplomatic representative offices in their respective capital cities in order to further expand their bilateral relations.
