Deputy PM meets WTO representatives


(VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan met with Eirik Glenne, Chairman of the working party for Viet Nam's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), in Ha Noi on June 4.

Deputy PM Khoan thanked Glenne, who was accompanied by Arif Hussain, Director of the WTO Accession Department and Adnal Cato, an expert from the WTO Secretariat, for his visit while the world's biggest trade body is actively preparing for the Doha talk round.

The Deputy PM highlighted Viet Nam's socio-economic achievements in the renewal and international integration processes over recent years. He also affirmed the country's determination to quickly join the WTO. He said: "accession to the WTO is one of the priorities that has been drawing the attention and receiving the strong support of the people, as well as the National Assembly and the government".

Chairman Glenne, who is also Norwegian Ambassador to the WTO, praised Viet Nam's efforts and affirmed the secretariat's as well as his support for accelerating the negotiation process.

The two sides also discussed measures to boost the negotiation process./.
