Overseas Vietnamese want more help from homeland

(VNA) - Representatives of the overseas Vietnamese communities in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany have expressed their hope for more assistance from the homeland, particularly from the Party and the State.

They said they needed the homeland's help in teaching Vietnamese language and culture to their children and in settling down in the host countries.

Those proposals were delivered to Vice Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Phu Binh during his working tours of the UK, the Netherlands and Germany between May 27 and June 4.

At meetings with representatives of the overseas Vietnamese communities in London, Den Haag, Bonn, Berlin and Dresden, Binh also heard their opinions on nationality, entry and exit procedures and the purchase of houses in Viet Nam.

He briefed the overseas Vietnamese on socio-economic developments in the homeland in the recent past and introduced them to new Party and State policies concerning overseas Vietnamese.

The Vietnamese official also told the people about the results of the first year of the implementation of the Political Bureau's resolution No.36 and the Government's plan of action on affairs relating to overseas Vietnamese.

While in Germany, Binh had working sessions with Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to Federal Chancellor Bernd Muetzelburg, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior Lutz Diwell, and Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration Marieluise Beck.

In discussing issues of mutual concerns, German officials have affirmed that they will continue creating favourable conditions for the overseas Vietnamese community to integrate and prosper in Germany.
