Vietnamese Government pleased with cooperation with France

(VNA) - The Vietnamese government is satisfied with increased co-operation with France in economics, trade, culture and education in the recent past, a Vietnamese government leader told the French Minister Delegate for Cooperation, Development and Francophone Nations in Paris on June 7.

In talks with his host, Minister Brigitte Girardin, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, who is accompanying Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh on his current France visit, underlined that the visit is aimed at further boosting that effective co-operation.

The Vietnamese leader thanked France for its enthusiastic support for Viet Nam's bid to join the World Trade Organisation as well as its aid for Viet Nam's development and infrastructure construction projects.

He noted with pleasure the cultural exchange and cooperation programmes with France, including the development of French language teaching in Viet Nam, the two countries' co-operation paradigms involving African countries and international organisations, as well as co-operation models between the two countries' local authorities.

Ms. Girardin said she was impressed by the economic growth rate in Viet Nam and hoped the two countries will soon establish a high-level council for the development of Franco-Vietnamese economic co-operation.

The French Minister's view was approved by her guest who also proposed that the two countries should work on detailed regulations, functions and tasks of the council in line with their leaders' agreements so that it will be able to mobilise various sources of funding to help carry out specific economic cooperation projects.

The French Minister affirmed that the France Development Agency, after undergoing reform, will pay more attention to co-operation projects with Viet Nam, including those on healthcare, the upgrade of Long Bien bridge, infrastructure development, as well as French language teaching.

On the same day, Deputy PM Khoan met with Christine Lagarde, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade.

Earlier, Khoan attended and delivered a speech at a France-Viet Nam Business Forum held at the office of the French Business Association and the Enterprise Association of France (MEDEF).

He introduced the investment environment, investment potential and opportunities in various areas in Viet Nam to French businessmen and answered their queries concerning the legal aspect of doing business in the country./.
