Overseas Vietnamese help link Vietnamese and US markets
(VNA) - The overseas Vietnamese community in the US, well-informed of the market and excellent in language skills, will serve as a useful link for Vietnamese commodities entering the US market.
This was the assessment of Tran Quang Hoan, assistant to the Foreign Minister and Vice Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, at a talk on the system for distribution and sales of Vietnamese goods in the US market held in Ha Noi on June 8.
The talk, organised jointly by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, became a forum for the exchange of information and experience after reports delivered by three overseas Vietnamese in the US who were experienced in trade and have gained some success in this fiercely competitive market.
Domestic entrepreneurs expressed their concerns about customs procedures, market information, laws and access to advice in the US when bringing Vietnamese goods into that market and setting up their businesses in the country.
Speakers gave advice on the types of goods and services that there is demand for in the US and on ways for Vietnamese businesses to access the market.
The overseas Vietnamese community in the US with a population of 1.3 million now is the fourth biggest Asian community after the Chinese, Indian and Philippine. Most of these people have stable living conditions in the US, and close links with the motherland, wishing to contribute to the national construction and the development of the bilateral economic cooperation.
According to the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, many overseas Vietnamese-run businesses in recent years have taken part directly or coordinated and actively assisted domestic businesses in importing and exporting goods and services between the US and Viet Nam.
