Belgian province makes priority of developing co-operation with Vietnam

(VNA): The Flandre Orientale province of Belgium has put a priority on developing economic ties with Vietnam, the chief of the province has said.

During a seminar on investment and business in Vietnam, held in Brussels on June 13, Flandre Orientale Governor Andre Denys said the province is giving priority to promoting co-operation with Vietnam and China, and that he will lead a delegation of entrepreneurs to Vietnam in March of 2006.

Representatives of local businesses attending the seminar praised the favourable investment environment in Vietnam. They presented projects they want to carry out in Vietnam regarding the production of concrete, the construction of railways and ecological areas, the breeding of flowers and shrimp, shipbuilding and port services.

Vietnamese Ambassador Phan Thuy Thanh provided local businesses with recent information on socio-economic developments in Vietnam. She highlighted the Government's new policies to attract foreign investment and answered questions raised by Belgian businessmen about Vietnam's procedures on licensing business start-ups and choosing partners, as well as regulations of Vietnamese laws.

The diplomat affirmed: "Vietnam is willing to take the initiative to facilitate co-operation between Vietnamese and Belgian businesses".

So far, many businesses of Flandre Orientale have fared well in Vietnam. They include INVE-NV, which specialises in animal breeding technologies and has carried out a project to process feed for shrimp in Vietnam, and the Gand University, which has provided training for Vietnamese postgraduates and doctors in the areas of biological technology, aquaculture, and urban and environmental management.
