Vietnamese and Chinese experts hold talks on sea issues
(VNA): Vietnamese and Chinese experts held their tenth round of talks in Beijing, China, from June 21 to 23 on sea issues.
During the talks, which were conducted in a friendly, frank and constructive manner, the two sides discussed issues of common concern in depth, and helped each other understand the other's standpoint in order to work out a fundamental and lasting solution for sea issues acceptable to both sides.
The two sides affirmed that they would follow the agreements reached by their leaders on sea issues and the 2002 ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
In that spirit, the experts discussed the establishment of a negotiation mechanism for demarcating the overlapping water area outside the Tonkin Gulf and continued to discuss new possibilities for sea co-operation in less sensitive domains in conformity with international laws and practices.
They also discussed recent developments on their sea areas and measures to maintain order and stability on the sea with the aim of consolidating and strengthening the two countries' neighbourliness.
They agreed to convene their 11th round of talks in Vietnam in the second half of this year.
On June 23, Lu Xinhua, China's Vice Foreign Minister, met with Vietnamese and Chinese experts attending the talks, and witnessed their signing of the minutes of the talks.
