Vietnam concludes WTO negotiations with Colombia

(VNA): Vietnam and Colombia are expected to sign a bilateral agreement on the former's entry to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland, before July 31.

The timetable was made clear in a joint statement between the two countries at the end of a stop-over in Colombia by the Vietnamese Prime Minister's envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Dung, who has just concluded a fortnight tour of four Latin American nations.

So far Vietnam has concluded bilateral negotiations on its WTO membership with six Latin American countries, including Cuba, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.

Leaders of Honduras and the Dominican Republic also expressed strong support for Vietnam's bid to join the world's largest economic body.

Deputy FM Dung said President Ricardo Maduro of Honduras and President Leonel Fernandez Reyna of the Dominican Republic personally promised to instruct relevant agencies to speed up negotiations with Vietnam so that the country would become a WTO member as soon as possible.
