Vietnamese APF Vice Chairman re-elected
(VNA): Nguyen Ngoc Tran, Chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly (NA)'s Committee for External Relations and Chairman of the Vietnam Sub-committee to the Francophone Parliamentary Alliance (APF), was re-elected APF Vice Chairman at the annual meeting of the APF executive committee from July 4-6.
Bernard Patry, a Canadian parliamentarian, was elected APF Chairman.
Mr Tran headed a Vietnamese NA delegation to the meeting and the 31st Assembly of APF in Brussels, Belgium, from July 6-9. The assembly was attended by representatives of 48 APF sub-committees from Asia, Europe, America and Africa, as well as General Secretary of the International Organisation of Francophone Countries (OIF) Abdou Diouf, and representatives of many international organisations.
The participants presented reports highlighting the APF role in the globalisation process and pointed to activities APF should focus on to contribute to the world's cultural diversity. The assembly unanimously agreed on the establishment of an APF area in the Asia-Pacific region.
