Viet Nam wants to boost cooperative ties with African countries

(VNA) - Viet Nam attaches importance to boosting cooperative ties with friendly developing countries in Africa, including Morocco, President Tran Duc Luong said while receiving the special envoy of the King of Morocco, Taieb El Fassi Fihri, in Ha Noi on July 25.

He told Taieb El Fassi Fihri, who is also Moroccan Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, that he hoped to dynamically develop multifaceted cooperation with Morocco. President Luong said that Morocco, with its role in Northern Africa and Africa as well as its relations with Europe, and Viet Nam, with its role in Southeast Asia and Asia in general, can promote cooperation bilaterally and multilaterally.

President Luong thanked the Moroccan Government for its support for Viet Nam's bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2008-2009 term. He said the two countries should continue to support each other at regional and international forums. President Luong renewed his invitation to the Moroccan King to visit Viet Nam.

The Moroccan special envoy said Morocco considers Viet Nam as a priority partner in Southeast Asia. He conveyed to President Luong a message from the Moroccan King pledging to promote economic and commercial relations as well as political dialogues with Viet Nam.

The Moroccan special envoy said the two countries should promote cooperation through concrete programmes and projects on the basis of the signed bilateral agreements. He said that the two countries still have great potential for trade development, but they should define key areas for further cooperation such as science and technology, services, finance and banking, aquaculture and agriculture. He affirmed that the Moroccan government supports Viet Nam's efforts to join the WTO and to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

The same day, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received special envoy Taieb El Fassi Fihri. Deputy PM Dung stressed that the two sides should actively implement the cooperation agreements between the two countries' leaders, quickly establish an intergovernmental committee to boost comprehensive cooperation, and sign an agreement on investment protection and promotion and an agreement on double-taxation avoidance to create a legal basis for trade and investment between the two countries. He said he hopes that the two countries' economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation would further develop in the near future.

The Moroccan special envoy expressed his admiration for Viet Nam's socio-economic achievements in the renovation process.
