Austrian official sees opportunities to enhance economic ties with Viet Nam
(VNA) - An Austrian government official has said he sees good prospects for Viet Nam and Austria to boost economic cooperation, especially in railways, health care, the environment and technology.
Eduard Mainoni, Secretary of State at the Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology, told Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan in Ha Noi on July 27 that he came to this conclusion after working sessions with eight ministries of Viet Nam. He said his working visit was aimed at promoting bilateral trade and investment ties, adding that he had good impressions about Viet Nam's economic development. The official agreed with the Deputy PM's suggestion that Austria extend its payment schedule for debts Viet Nam owes to Austria.
Deputy PM Khoan said Viet Nam and Austria enjoy good political and diplomatic relations, and that he wished the two countries further boost trade and investment ties. He thanked the Austrian government and people for their support to Viet Nam's national construction, its bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the organisation of the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM-5).
Khoan stressed that Viet Nam is resolved to make use of all opportunities after joining the WTO to integrate further into the world economy. He said the country is now focusing on developing a market economy, completing administrative reforms and refining its legal system, to overcome its under-developed status in five years' time.
