World Youth and Student Festival opens in Caracas, Venezuela
Vietnam is attending the 16th World Youth and Student Festival, which opened on August 8 (local time) in Caracas, Venezuela, along with 17,000 delegates from 144 countries in the world.
The 163 Vietnamese youths are led by Dao Ngoc Dung, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
During the week-long festival under the theme of solidarity, democracy and social progress, delegates will discuss four main subjects, namely "Peace, war and imperialism", "Education, culture, science and technology", "Employment, economy and development," and "Democracy, freedom, national sovereignty and human rights."
The programme also includes days of solidarity with Africa, America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East, as well as celebrations of the anniversary of victory over fascism and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's reunification.
During the festival, the Vietnamese delegation will hold two seminars, namely "Vietnam after 60 years for national independence and socialism", and "The aftermath of the Agent Orange in Vietnam and the struggle for peace and justice", calling youths and people from all over the world to support the struggle for justice of Vietnamese Agent Orange victims.
It is the third time that such an event has been organised in the Americas, with Cuba hosting it in 1978 and 1997.
