Overseas Vietnamese intellectuals encouraged to take part in national construction
Vietnamese scientists at home and abroad will discuss scientific matters to service national construction, particularly the development of key industries such as information technology, electronics, telecoms and banking, at a seminar in Hanoi from August 16-17.
More than 60 overseas Vietnamese intellectuals will attend the first seminar "Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals for National Construction", which will be jointly organised by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Participants will request the State to study and create favourable conditions for overseas Vietnamese intellectuals to contribute to Vietnam's national construction.
Among nearly 3 million Vietnamese living abroad, about 300,000 people are university graduates and highly skilled workers who have a thorough knowledge of culture, science and technology and economic management. Many of them are leading officials at research institutes, universities and hospitals abroad and international organisations.
Every year, about 200 overseas Vietnamese intellectuals have been invited to go back to Vietnam to work with relevant ministries, services, localities and research institutions. Some of them have been invited to work as advisors to the Prime Minister.
