A diplomacy seminar held in Hanoi to mark its 60th anniversary
Over the past 60 years, under the leadership of the Party and the direct guidance of President Ho Chi Minh, the diplomatic service has made great progress and achievements, contributing to common glorious victories of the nation, the minister told the seminar held to review the results of the implementation of the Resolution of the 9th Party Congress on diplomacy and orientations in the new stage.
During the renovation process, the diplomatic service has actively, flexibly and creatively implemented the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, international relation diversification and multilaterialisation, and actively integrated into the world and regional economies, Minister Nien said.
He went on to say that in the ever changing global context, the diplomatic service is facing both opportunities and challenges. The sector, therefore, should efficiently resolve the relationship between security and development, co-operation and struggle, partners and objects, protecting the national interests and respecting the legitimate benefits of partners, and putting the national benefits foremost and contributing to the common struggle of people around the world for peace, national independence and development.
Over 20 papers presented at the seminar analysed diplomatic activities and its achievements, as well as its contributions to the revolution cause from various angles.
Experts and researchers also focused on assessing and clearly defining the opportunities and challenges in the implementation of diplomatic work, including developing ties between Vietnam and Laos, Cambodia, China, American countries, the European Union and Russia, the border line demarcation project, and overseas Vietnamese-related work.
