Vietnamese delegation attends 10th anniversary of Fourth World Conference on Women
More than 300 delegates from nearly 90 countries and territories attended the event.
Speaking at the meeting, Khiet said the Vietnamese Government and people have always highly valued and attached importance to the women's role in national construction, renovation and modernisation. The Vietnamese women's role and prestige have markedly increased, she stressed, adding that the rate of women leaders and managers at different levels has increased, and that 27.31 percent of National Assembly deputies are women. Vietnamese women have made important contributions to the nation's achievements in all sectors of socio-economic development, including education, poverty reduction and family planning, Khiet said.
She stressed that the Vietnamese Government and women are always loyal to the strategic goals set by the Fourth World Conference on Women and the Millennium Development Goals, and that Viet Nam joins the international community under the banner of peace, development and cooperation.
During the conference, the Vietnamese delegation took part in seminars on women's participation in decision making and management, women's economic rights, women involved in poverty reduction, women in fighting HIV/AIDS, and women involved in promoting sustainable development. They attended an exhibition of Chinese women's achievements over the past 10 years, and also visited some localities in China.
