(VNA): Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh met representatives of overseas Vietnamese, who have made meritorious contributions to their homeland, in Hanoi on September 2.
The Party leader expressed his pleasure to receive overseas Vietnamese who have returned to their homeland to attend the 60th August Revolution anniversary and National Day. He informed them about the achievements their Fatherland has made over the past 60 years, as well as its recent socio-economic development and orientations for the future.
General Secretary Manh also said he was delighted to know that the Vietnamese communities abroad are leading stable lives and are better integrating into the societies of the countries where they are residing.
He praised the efforts of organisations and individuals in helping their homeland and affirmed that the Party and the State will forever remember their contributions.
According to the Party leader, Resolution 36 on overseas Vietnamese work issued by the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam reflects the Party's renewal and consistent policies for the Vietnamese community abroad. After a year of implementing the resolution, many drastic measures have been taken to unite all strata of overseas Vietnamese.
The Party and State leaders will always instruct all Party committees, the whole people and agencies to thoroughly grasp the Party's renewal thoughts on overseas Vietnamese work, which consider the work to be an important task.
While calling on overseas Vietnamese to make further contributions to their homeland, Party leader Manh expressed his wish that overseas Vietnamese who have returned to the country to attend the 60th National Day continue promoting the tradition of patriotism and staying united in order to build a strong and prosperous Vietnam and an equitable, democratic and civilised society.
