Foreign leaders congratulate Vietnam on it's National Day

(VNA): The Vietnamese Party, State, Government and National Assembly leaders have received messages of congratulations from many countries around the world on Vietnam's 60th National Day (September 2).

The messages from Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China; Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, and Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier, expressed their heart-felt joy at the achievements the Vietnamese people have made under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam over the past 60 years, especially in nearly 20 years of implementing the "doi moi" (renovation) process.

They reiterated the time-honoured friendship between China and Vietnam, and noted that bilateral relations have made great strides in the new century. High-level leaders of the two Parties and countries regularly visit and contact each other, bilateral exchange and co-operation in all fields have seen good results, and mutual understanding and trust are constantly improved.

The Chinese leaders affirmed that the Chinese Party and Government highly value the traditional friendship with Vietnam and attach great importance to developing co-operation with Vietnam.

The Chairman of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of the People's Democratic Republic of Laos, Khamtay Siphandone; the Persident of the Lao National Assembly, Samane Viyaketh; and Lao Prime Minister Bounnyang Vorachith also extended their warm congratulations to the Vietnamese leaders. They praised the great victories the Vietnamese people have made during their heroic struggle for national independence, freedom and reunification as well as the accomplishments in the renovation process.

The Lao leaders said Vietnam has made positive contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world as a whole, thus enhancing its role and prestige in the international arena. They thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the timely and valuable support they have given to Laos.

"We firmly believe that the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation between the two Parties, States and peoples will develop to a new height with more fruitful results, benefiting the people of the two countries and contributing to strengthening the ASEAN's strength, protecting peace, stability and co-operation for development in the region and the world at large," said the messages of the Lao leaders.

In their messages of congratulations, Cambodian King His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Baromneath Norodom Sihamoni, Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party Samdech Chea Sim, and Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen expressed their belief that the friendship and traditional co-operation between the two countries will continue to be strengthened and developed in the future, in the interest of both peoples and the ASEAN as a whole.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah also sent his congratulations to President Tran Duc Luong and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

In his messages to Vietnamese leaders, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he firmly believed that Indonesia and Vietnam will continue to work for peace and prosperity in their countries and Southeast Asia as a whole, and increase multilateral co-operation in the coming time.

He expressed his satisfaction at the two countries' relationship, saying it has created a solid foundation for stronger co-operation between the two countries within the ASEAN framework as well as multilateral co-operation mechanisms for the benefits of the two peoples.

On this occasion, Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla passed along a message of greeting to his Vietnamese counterpart Truong My Hoa.

King of Malaysia Tuanku Syed Sirojuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail sent a message to President Tran Duc Luong on Vietnam's 60th National Day.

In addition, Vietnamese leaders received greetings from Myanmar leaders, including ones from Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe, Vice Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Vice Senior General Moung Aye, and Prime Minister Lt. Gen. Soe Win.

In these messages, the Myanmar leaders all expressed belief that the friendship and time-honoured co-operation between Myanmar and Vietnam will be bolstered for the two countries' mutual interests.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo extended her greetings to Vietnamese leaders. She said the two countries have worked to enhance their bilateral ties to a new height, especially in marine reseach, trade, and people-to-people exchange last year. Arroyo expressed hope that the Philippines and Vietnam will continue to co-operate in ensuring peace and prosperity, not only in each country, but also in the entire region.

In their congratulatory messages, President S.R. Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore expressed determination to strengthen the existing multi-faceted co-operation between Singapore and Vietnam. The Singaporean leaders noted that Singapore and Vietnam have closely co-ordinated to ensure the solidarity role of ASEAN and they believed the two countries will increase their ties further.

In their greetings, Thailand's His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said they believed the friendship and co-operation between the two nations will be further strengthened.

First Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee and Chairman of the State Council and the Ministers Council of Cuba Fidel Castro Ruz sent messages of congratulations to General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Duc Luong and Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

He said Vietnam's Declaration of Independence marked a milestone in the history of nations which had struggled for peace, freedom and sovereignty.

The Cuban representative noted that under the clearsighted leadership of late President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people's undaunted struggle succeeded, the country reunited, and it has so far seen strong development in all spheres. Vietnam continues to be a source of encouragement for all nations in the world, for freedom, justice and progress.

On this occasion, Vietnamese leaders got messages from President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Yong Nam and Prime Minister Pak Pong Ju, who expressed hope that the friendship and co-operation between the two countries will be brought to a new height in the coming time.

In his message of congratulations to President Tran Duc Luong, Russian President Vladimir  Putin said he was pleased with positive development in political dialogues and all-around co-operation between Russia and Vietnam.

Putin expressed his belief that with joint effort, Russia-Vietnam ties will develop further for mutual interests and for peace and security in the region.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail  Ephimovich Fradkov also sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

The messages from President A.P.J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India showed the Indian leaders' pleasure at the two countries' co-operation that has been strengthened and diversified over the recent past, as well as their hope for its expansion in the future.
