Viet Nam to boost education cooperation with Indonesia

(VNA) - How to boost cooperation in education with Indonesia, as well as with other ASEAN countries, was a purpose of a three-day working visit to Indonesia by Vietnamese Education Minister Nguyen Minh Hien.

Meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Bambang Soedibyo during his visit from September 18-20, Hien stressed the two countries have potential to further their cooperation in education. The cooperation should focus on student exchanges at under-graduate and post-graduate levels, and the exchange of experiences, in accordance with a memorandum on education cooperation signed by the two countries during Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's visit to Viet Nam in May.

Reviewing the role of education in shaping an ASEAN Socio-cultural Community, Hien, who is Chairman of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO), said the organisation has discussed measures to boost cooperation and help students of member countries to study the cultures of other countries. SEAMEO members agreed to put an ASEAN introduction programme into curricula, organise cultural and sport exchanges, coordinate human resource training, and complete education universalisation by 2020.

During his stay in Indonesia, Hien visited education establishments of SEAMEO and Indonesia.

After Indonesia, Hien will have a working visit to Malaysia.
