Viet Nam's Industry Ministry delegation visits Laos
At the welcoming ceremony in Vientiane, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Thoongloun Sisolit said he highly appreciated the cooperation between Laos and Viet Nam's industry ministries in implementing the two governments' cooperation agreement on economics, culture, technology and science.
He also said the two ministries' cooperation in building the Xekaman hydroelectric project in Xe Kong province, southern Laos in the future will help the two countries' economic cooperation keep up with their political cooperation.
The Lao Deputy Prime Minister also urged the two ministries to further strengthen their cooperation, which plays an important role in implementing each country's economic development targets and plans.
The same day, the Vietnamese delegation worked with the Lao Ministry of Industry and Handicraft to discuss measures to boost the two ministries' cooperation in the coming time.
The two sides agreed to start work on the Xekaman 3 hydro-electric project in late 2005 and other similar projects between 2006 and 2015 and Viet Nam will continue to sell electricity to Laos.
Laos encourages Vietnamese enterprises to invest in mineral exploitation in the country. The Viet Nam Coal Corporation (Vinacoal) will conduct surveys to exploit fossil coal in Lao's northern province of Luong Nam Tha, serving the construction of a thermo-electric power plant there.
The two sides also agreed to work on industrial planning in Laos' four southern provinces, boost planning in the processing industry planning in order to take advantage of the potential and strengths of agricultural products of Laos-Viet Nam- Cambodia Development Project, and also develop human resource.
