China's National Day marked in Viet Nam

(VNA): The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Viet Nam - China Friendship Association (VCFA) met in Ha Noi on September 30 to mark China's 56th National Day (Oct. 1).

During the meeting, Pham Nhu Cuong, Vice President of the VCFA, and Chinese Ambassador to Viet Nam Qi Jianguo reviewed the China's 56-year development path since the inception of the People's Republic of China. They laid stress on the country's renewal achievements over the past.

At present, China is the world's sixth largest economy, with an annual GDP growth rate of 9 percent and has made strides in cultural, sports, medical and scientific and technical fields.

Cuong said the Vietnamese people highly appreciated China's accomplishments and that he wished the Chinese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, to continue gaining more success.

In the evening of the same day, Ambassador Qi Jianguo hosted a get-together to celebrate the event.

The Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc joined the function.

Phuc said together with the building of cooperation mechanisms in an diplomacy, national defence and security domains, the two countries' Ministries of Public Securities reached a cooperation agreement last March.

Economic ties between Viet Nam and China have been steadily expanded with two-way trade reaching almost 7.2 billion USD last year. As a result, China is now Viet Nam's biggest trade partner.

Both sides have been carrying out the plantation of border marks smoothly while gradually translating agreements on sea border demarcation and fisheries cooperation in the Tonkin Gulf into a reality./.
