The legislative leader applauded the fine results of the talks between the Cambodian PM and his Vietnamese counterpart Phan Van Khai. He said the signing of cooperation agreements, particularly the Complementary Treaty to the Treaty on the Delimitation of State Border, would lay a legal foundation for the two countries to build its borderline into one of peace and friendship.
Chairman An affirmed that the legislative body of Viet Nam supports the signing of the Complementary Border Treaty and proposed that the Governments of the two countries continue instructing ministries, agencies and localities to implement the treaty, especially to conduct the planting of landmarks and complete field works prior to December 2008.
The Chairman took the occasion to congratulate the Cambodian people on their national construction and development achievements under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Senate, National Assembly and the Government. He said the socio-political situation in Cambodia had been stable, the economy had seen gradual growth, and the country's role and position had been improved in the region and international arena.
PM Hun Sen spoke highly of the position of the legislature of Viet Nam, as well as cooperative ties between the legislative bodies of the two countries. He said he believed that with the assistance from the two parliaments, the agreements signed by the two sides would be carried out effectively.
The PM also affirmed that the Complementary Border Treaty was considered and fully supported by the Cambodian NA Standing Committee.
PM Hun Sen briefed Chairman An on the situation in Cambodia, saying that his country gives top priority to poverty reduction and that the country wishes to share experiences with Viet Nam as well as receive Viet Nam's assistance in the area.
He expressed his hope that Viet Nam, as a host country of the 26th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Meeting, will support Cambodia's bid to become a member of the grouping.
The same day, PM Hun Sen met with former State President Le Duc Anh.
During the meeting, they recalled the deep memories and impressions on the fine and close ties between the two peoples and armies. The former State President praised the socio-economic accomplishments made by the Cambodian people under the leadership of the Royal Government led by PM Hun Sen. He also expressed his belief that the relationship between Cambodia and Viet Nam will be intensified in the future.
The PM affirmed that the Cambodian Government and people will remember forever the wholehearted assistance given by the Vietnamese Party, State, people and voluntary soldiers to Cambodia during its struggle for revival and liberation in the past. He stressed that he would do his best to maintain and reinforce the fine relations between the two countries./.
