Viet Nam, Belgian look for boosted military cooperation

(VNA) - The Vietnamese and Belgian Chiefs of General Staff held talks in Ha Noi on October 24 to clarify their viewpoints on developing armed forces in their respective countries.

Chief of General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army Sen. Lieu. Gen. Phung Quang Thanh and his visiting Belgian counterpart Gen. August Van Daele discussed issues of common concern in order to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between the two armies and the two peoples for peace, stability, development and prosperity in their respective regions and the world as a whole.

The host and guest expressed the hope that this visit would help cement cooperative ties between the two armies, and the fine relations between the two countries.

Later the same day, the Belgian General paid a courtesy visit to Defence Minister Gen. Pham Van Tra.

Gen. Daele has been here since Oct. 22 for an official visit at the invitation of Chief of General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army and Deputy Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh./.
