IMF officials on visit

(VNA) - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and the International Monetary Fund's managing directors in Ha Noi have pledged to further boost their cooperation in environmental protection, education and banking reform.

Receiving the IMF delegation on October 28, Deputy Prime Minister Khoan praised the IMF's assistance over the past years and briefed his guests about the country's goals, policies and priorities in socio-economic development. "Viet Nam targets to become a developed country in 2010 and increase GDP per capita to around 1,000 USD per year," Khoan stressed.

In order to meet these targets, Viet Nam has to maintain its economic growth rate of 7.5-8 percent per year and attract an investment of around 140 billion USD, Khoan said./.
