Milestone in Viet Nam-China relations

(VNA) - All dailies today carried cover stories on the official visit to Viet Nam by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Hu Jintao.

Nhan dan (People) newspaper ran a report on the visit together with a photo and biography of Hu Jintao and a commentary entitled "To promote and expand Viet Nam-China relations". The newspaper said this is Hu Jintao's third visit to Viet Nam, the first since Hu Jintao became Party General Secretary and President of China, which takes place at a time when Viet Nam-China relations are developing favourably, affirming that the two sides place importance on boosting Viet Nam-China friendship and comprehensive cooperation under the motto of "Friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive cooperation, long-lasting stability, and looking toward the future," and the spirit of "Good friends, good comrades, good neighbours and good partners," meeting the desire and interest of the two peoples.

Reviewing the great achievements of the Chinese people in the building of socialism with Chinese character, the paper said over the past 56 years since the foundation of the People's Republic of China, particularly through 27 years of implementing the reform, open-door policy, China has obtained impressive achievements, with an average annual GDP growth rate of 9 percent over the past 25 years. China's GDP is now the 7th biggest in the world.

Over the past 55 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties, Viet Nam-China relations have developed rapidly and intensively in all areas. As many as 49 agreements and 25 State-level documents have been signed, laying a legal foundation for the two countries' long-term cooperative ties.

The commentary by Nhan dan said that the good results of Viet Nam-China comprehensive cooperation, as well as important contributions by the two countries to multilateral forums such as ASEAN, ARF, ASEM, and the United Nations, meet the interests of the two nations, boosting the two nations' prestige and position in the international arena.

Quan doi Nhan Dan (People's Army) daily runs an editorial reviewing relations between the two countries, which, it said, are fast developing not only in politics but also in economy and trade.

The Party newspaper describes the upcoming top-level visit and a number of agreements expected for the event as a momentum to bring relations between Viet Nam and China to a new height. The event would serve the interests of the two peoples as well as contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world as a whole.

Meanwhile, Ha Noi Moi daily highlighted the event as "a bright prospect for a comprehensive development in the Viet Nam-China relationship". It wrote " Viet Nam-China ties have stood the test of time and the current fine development has resulted from tireless efforts by the two Parties and peoples."

" Amidst the complicated developments in the world, to strengthen and develop friendly and comprehensive relations between Viet Nam and China is of primary importance not only in the interest of their respective countries, but also for peace and stability in the region and the world as a whole. The visit to Viet Nam by President Hu Jintao of China is a milestone in the two countries comprehensive and sustainable development of bilateral ties," said the newspaper./.
